Three swine lagoons in North Carolina’s coastal region are monitored with electromagnetic terrain conductivity (EM) surveys and wells. One lagoon, in Norfold series clay soil, shows no significant seepage. The others, constructed without liners in Lakeland series deep sands, show clear evidence of seepage. The EM method successfully located older plumes, but did not respond to new seepage. Investigations into the reasons for this are in progress.
